Gambling and Society: Then and Now

The belief that casinos are still somehow linked to criminal syndicates is still prevalent in the minds of uninformed people, but the fact is, while some casinos in the past were used as front by mobsters, that is no longer the case. All major casinos and gambling establishments are now run by large companies, and operate under strict government controls.

This incorrect public perception, fortunately, is dying down quickly, and besides the fact that people actually do win in casinos, other factors that has changed the image of gambling are the televised Poker and Black Jack tourneys. Here people could see how it was possible for anyone to come out and win.

Furthermore, casinos, particularly in Las Vegas and Atlantic City have become mega resorts, with treats for everyone. The image of a casino as a place for hustlers and sharpers are now definitely a thing of the distant past.

Last but not the least, there is the ongoing online gambling revolution, which is changing the way people play. Now anyone with an Internet access can play and win thousands of dollars, have access to free games, tutorials and forums. A whole new community has emerged to contribute and serve the interests of the public.

The acceptance of gambling into mainstream society took a while, but now there is no question that it is here to stay, and with the continued growth of the online casino industry, its popularity will only increase.
